"However, as yet nothing bests a Kuro"...
Well, according to one reviewer, 'The TC-PVT60 also beat our in-house Kuro'...
Its been a few years since the last Kuro rolled off the assembly line, and as usual, technology keeps moving ahead, so its not surprising that the latest sets will rival or exceed the Kuro.
When I bought my first Panasonic Plasma some years ago, I compared it to the Kuro. Both were properly set up and calibrated. The Kuro did have better blacks, but not so much better to warrant the large difference in cost. I went with the Panasonic, and have never regretted it.

Anybody can be a reviewer, even me... Better to see what the pros and well-regarded experts say. Look for the latest Value Electronics shootouts to see what they say, if you're interested. Note that Kuro (*Elites*) are not allowed to compete since they aren't sold anymore, but are still there as a reference (only a 50", which is probably the best anyways, but people call that "small" these days...).
But yes, if buying new *now*, a Panny xT60 would be a good choice. Unfortunately, due to its high cost, the patented (chemical) technology that Pio used to get their edge is not used by Panny. But tech moves along without it.
