In Reply to: RE: Sorry but i have to ask ... media player quality as cd transport posted by Mr Peabody on October 15, 2013 at 19:10:25
Thank you very much for your reply
Actually i had my eyes on the various Squeezebox ... even 2nd because i realized the high quality of their spdif out.
But i would like a media player also able to play video files.
Unfortunately i did not take the model of that Iomega player.
Maybe in an audio context could have been a nice surprise.
The Oppo is a really nice unit.
I wonder how is the quality of its digital out. I would like to use my current dac that i like.
Thanks again and kind regards,
beppe

I have no personal experience with the Oppo. An installer friend who sells them has had good luck with them and recommends them for most jobs. Oppo brought product to the market back when DVD was still the only format, the player literally took the market by storm and set benchmarks for performance. Their Blu-ray/universal players have been the same. Based on how well they perform and are accepted I'd say the digital outputs would have to be good. Oppos players have a rep for their analog outputs sounding good. I believe either Oppo themselves or some online retailers offer a 30 day return if you wanted to try one out.
What I'm currently using is an early generation Marantz BDP which is holding up very well. Marantz has universal players in the $499.00 range as well. I've only used the HDMI but in my opinion Marantz would make a good transport as well.
Which DAC are you using? Is it just for music, I'm not aware of any 5.1 DAC's except for what's built into receivers/processors.
Thanks again and yes it is only a stereo dac but i am on stereo completely.
I cannot stand more than two speakers.
The dac is talked about here

and in the picture.
I understand Oppo must be very good
The bigger one has also balanced outs (i have this kind of inputs in my amp).
Regards,
