I find Sony and Panasonic players (DVD and Blu-ray) rather easy to use. A quick reading of their manuals should get you up and running without much difficulty.

Usually the tricky part is that players sometimes utilize two different buttons on the remote to access different menu options. Different brands also use their preferred wording on those buttons. It would make life easier if all players' menus were simply labeled "Menu," and would call up all available settings with that one button.

I suggest you download user manuals from manufacturers' websites and see which brand and model best suits you.

Finally, if you own a high-definition TV with HDMI input connections, I don't see a reason to purchase a DVD player when Sony and Panasonic make excellent Blu-ray players that sell for very low prices (all Blu-ray units play standard DVDs as well). For example, I checked several online dealers and found the trustworthy Crutchfield.com currently has the Sony BDP-S1100 for $59.99 with free shipping and a 60-day refund policy (see link below). Since you say you're not technically inclined, Crutchfield's telephone support, both before and after a purchase, would be ideal for you.
