Can lightening damage a screen even when it is unplugged from power?
Did you disconnect the signal cable from the TV? By signal cable I mean TV antenna lead, Satellite cable from the dish, or if you have cable TV, disconnect the incoming provider's cable.
Any of these signal providers if not properly earth grounded can damage the TV in the event of a lightning storm. (By earth grounded I mean the cable grounding block bonded, connected, to the main grounding system of your home. In the event of a very close lightning strike the only sure protection is to disconnect the signal from the TV.
