You are right, that is pretty obvious; however, I articulated in my main post, that there are several issues during the DAC process. First, older receivers that have toslink connections will readily accept that connection. The issue is that they cannot convert anything higher than 96kbs, second, the newer receivers with HDMI accept signals above 96kbs, both the digital TV's offer digital over HDMI and higher data rates, that is great. From all that I have read, all the two channel outputs are a matrixed signal of the HDMI inputs, unless you use the preout settings, essentially defeating the purpose. The original Apple TV original can be sampled to 48kbps I beleive.

I just might try the Oppo player as it has both analog inputs and outputs, plus one HDMI input. As lomas it converts all of the digital surround inputs to analog outs, that might be the save d by the bell moment.
