But who am I to complain? Things got LOUD when you were supposed to be terrified. Nosferatu wasn't scary enough, but he sure was hard to understand. It was like trying to understand all those Scots during PMQs.

Eggers had his "players" populating the screen. Not so bad. This was the second time I've seen Simon Burney play Renfield. Typecasting is kicking in. Nick Hoult played a Good German with an English accent. Bill Skarsgaard was completely incognito. The women folk were just plain hysterical. And Dafoe was a tad off his game, IMO.

Great care was used to recreate an early 1800s village and film stock look. Unfortunately, the hype is more than the end result for me.

I find it odd that Dracula has been reframed to Germany with all the Brits chewing up the scenery. If you like Eggers then you won't be disappointed.

Waylaid by COVID.

Again.

I'm of a mind pretty much every film we've seen the past few years is at least
20 minutes too long so not surprised this could have been trimmed to 90 minutes.

DaFoe off???? Maybe due to making so many films the past two years, his focus
is sure to slip at some point.

You could SMELL him and Pattinson in The Lighthouse, even when they were outside!

We like Eggers, we'll make it this one eventually.

BTW, after NOT being able to stream Shadow of The Vampire for well
over a year, it became available again a few months ago, so bought it.

I watched this on Amazon right after seeing Nosferatu. Not being a vampire geek I was not aware that Nosferatu was a retelling of Dracula set in Germany as Widow Stoker wouldn't sell Murnau the film rights. I was wondering why he was referred to as Count Orloff.

Dafoe nearly gave the performance of a lifetime. The nuance of his gestures was incredible. Malkovich was right in there with him. Those two boys were giving it their best. I really enjoyed the feature. It's a good redux.

Not a fan of Eggers at all.

Don't want to see one of my favorite novels ruined again.

likely enjoyed the setting/telling of filming in those days.

SO formal and in this case SO GERMAN!

"If it is not in the frame, it does not exist."

"You don't GET make-up!"

One gets so mesmerized by DaFoe and Malkovich's brilliance it's easy to
miss the incredible humour and overall artistry of the balance.

Watched the Apocalypse Redux. It's a giant turd in comparison to the edited original.

I remember seeing a very good German cmovie called Nosferatu in the 1960s. Dracula was exceptionally good with thin long face and biting and sucking blood from the female necks with great zest. An enjoyable movie. I cannot find it anywhere now.
