Runaway Train is to me a neglected classic.
Rebecca de Mornay: "You're an ANIMAL!!"
Jon Voigt: "Worse. HUMAN"
...and a fantastic performance by Eric Roberts

I like Runaway Train too, but. . . , posted on March 8, 2025 at 02:20:39

. . . as for Rebecca de Mornay, well, an actress she ain't - at least IMHO. Near the end, when she says, "He knows what he wants to do!" (as her voice trails off unconvincingly) - it never fails to make me wince! In fact, it became a joke over the years at our house - from time to time (and out of the blue), each of us would suddenly deliver the line just as she did - to the amusement of the rest of the family!

But that's OK - I agree with you that it's still a great movie! ;-)

And I love their use of a movement from the Vivaldi Gloria (in a heavy, romantic Russian performance) near the end too - great use of music there, perfect for the scene! Speaking of which, the director, Andrei Konchalovsky, also did a production of Boris Godunov in Italy, using Mussorgsky's original version rather than the more colorful Rimsky-Korsakov version - also available on blu-ray.

The guards are not very sharp. Old fashioned and over confident. What happened to the guys? Any sharks around there.

Especially certain scenes. But wanted McQueen to jump over and escape. That firing squad scene has haunted me for years. A superb movie indeed.

Just saw Sean Connery in the Great Train Robbery. What a terrible movie. A demo of how to make a bad movie.
