I'm using a Myryad MDV300 dvdp in my main 2ch system for playing music performances on dvd via an old Sony Trinitron 20" tv. (Most of the older concerts/live tv performances on dvd look better on the old display.) I use the stereo analog audio outputs to my integrated amp. I've had no problems with audio while playing dvds until I tried Criterion's The Girl Can't Help It which has only a mono soundtrack. I've tried experimenting with the audio settings in the dvd player but I can't get the soundtrack to play. No sound. (Can't hear Little Richard, Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran, Fats Domino, Julie London, et al.) I feel like I've overlooked something in the settings and the manual doesn't address playing a mono track through the stereo outputs. Maybe there's no way to play the audio track in this setup? Any suggestions?

Look at page 28 of the manual, no sound or poor quality sound. It says to press audio to select an alternative audio track.

The other thing you can try is to toggle the Dolby Pro Logic setting on audio 2 (analog out)

The bottom left of the back cover appears to indicate the type of Dolby encoding on the disk? What does it say. I can't make it out on the images I found on the net.

Is it possible the DVD is faulty IOW?

Thanks for the responses. I'll try the DVD in the family rm system that has an avr and oppo brp this weekend.
Also, the DVD only has one audio track and that track is mono. I could've missed trying a combination of settings between audio1 and 2 in the Myryad. Picked up the expanded edition of Purple Rain that comes with a DVD of a 1985 concert in Syracuse. Have been enjoying it with no problems. Prince is quite the performer!

Yes, I finally got around to trying it in my HT rig - one of those Marantz slimline AVRs and an Oppo brp. I use a pair of stand mounts and a sub in that system so I was expecting a similar problem but apparently one of the components has an "upmix" feature for the single mono track on the dvd. My older dvdp in my 2ch system will "downmix" to stereo but can't output a single mono track to left and right mains or something. If I had known that, I would've purchased the BR version of The Girl Can't Help It for use with the HT rig.
