it's Nobody's Perry Mason, because it's NOT and has Nothing to do with
Perry Mason.
On HBO.
They just used the Names.
Call it something else.
But NOT Perry Mason.
Very Disappointed.
And the Stubble, and everyone yelling FUCK, not true to the Period ( 1931 ) at all.
Or the music.
And no real Theme to speak of, just mood.
Bosch got changed, but it's still Bosch.
This New show sucks, plays on the Name, and doesn't deliver , at all.
The Warren William Movies were better, and they were pretty bad...
Raymond Burr is laughing his ass off!

for old TV fans, but I'll bet ESG fans are not displeased.

The Pre-quel idea works for me.
Some actual 30's Music in this one, and I liked the Modern Jazz Soundtrack, but still no real Theme.
The Jazz makes it oddly Contemporary.
Tuned in just for curiosity...this is just a sort of mashup of Chandler, Hammett, etc. And Perry Mason is just any poor detective stuck in a corrupt world, and since it's 2020, a world where people curse a lot.
Despite the kind of by-the-numbers genre tropes, it all depends on execution and the star is good, the atmosphere is set with good looking scenery and nice photography, and while it's a crime story like so many others, I'm OK with another whodunit.
I read that this is a sort of prequel and as the 8 parts continue, this detective Mason will become defense attorney Mason and things will settle into the inevitable trial. I found it went down pretty easy. I think I'm in.
I thought he looked too much like Indiana Jones.
I don't think I Ever saw Stubble in a 30's movie.
But I'm in...
I'm looking forward to where it ends up at the end of the season, as I think it turns more mainstream after that.

It's certainly odd. I like the look and the tone but it may not wear well over time. Confused with the ESG characters in this setting.
