Yea, I know, the ending of the novel was changed by the suits but still, The Natural was entertaining with a great Randy Newman score with Redford being a good fit for the older Hobbs, not to mention great supporting work by Duvall, Close, Bassinger, Farnsworth, and Hershey. While we're at it, Butch and The Kid as well.
Edit - Perfect as Hubbell in The Way We Were

Nevertheless, DiCaprio's film scored 49% to Redford's 39% on Rotten Tomatoes.
and I think Redford was miscast. EVERYTHING else casting wise in the 1974 version was right on the money with the other possible exception of Karen Black (who is ugly as sin and not a very good actress) Farrow as Daisy, Waterston as Nick and Dern as Tom were inspired casting choices... But for me, Redford didn't hit the mark. DiCaprio was equally disappointing in the remake, though I did kind of like Mulligan as Daisy. Baz Luhrmann is a horrid director IMO, and I'm sure he'll spoil Elvis's story for ALL!
Probably Sydney Pollack's best work. That movie along with Nuts is Barbra's best dramatic role. An Arthur Laurents script and a theme song by Hamlisch and Alan and Marilyn Bergman that is for the ages. It really doesn't get much better....
