This opened with a Roman amphibious assault on a walled city. The AI was nice, as everything looked real. The same was true for the exterior shots of Rome. The film's first half was mostly "historical" with all the exteriors and gladiator tussles. Then as the plot develops, Denzel arises and chews up all the scenery wherever he goes. That guy only gets better and better. His character was a crafty and eccentric villain who mugged and pranced his way through to the end. For me, he was the movie.
Not a bad diversion.
Follow Ups:
I enjoyed it, but it was far fetched. The sharks in the coliseum was over the top, even if the coliseum could hold water. lol.
Denzel was good, as always, but too slick, too "Denzel" for the portrayed time period.
Dean.
reelsmith's axiom: Its going to be used equipment when I sell it, so it may as well be used equipment when I buy it.
I agree. A high dollar grade B film. I did like the wife crossing the river Styx and the invasion and battle. The rest was predictable and long.
But to this day, my favorite gladiator movie is still "Jason and the Argonauts".
