and it gets him an Oscar every time. He's made a lot of B-grade stinkers, including work with dogs, but shines in portraying the ravaged of WW2.
I've seen both of his Oscar films and am not overwhelmed. Hopefully, this will be his last "tragic character" portrayal. No more sympathy roles for "the beak".
How come this famished looking actor gets best actor Oscars and a lot of sympathy? Who makes these movies?
I had to look this all up as I haven't watched any awards show for probably 40 years... so a grain of salt here.
1. Either they thought he was the best actor, they thought it was time for him to win one, they figured the people want him to win, or they just like him and his role was played well enough that they did anyway.
2. He got sympathy for what? That part I didn't see on my quick search.
3. Looking famished should preclude one from an award?
4. Different people for different movies.
