Tried to watch fairly recent Liam Neeson's Marlowe and couldn't for the fact the guy definitely crossed into geriatric sphere and the way he moves is a painful testimony of the fact. The same can be said for most of old pricks playing Marlowe. The guy was 33 or 38 or maybe 44 in last novel but not 60 or certainly not 74.
Follow Ups:
It wasn't just Liam but the script and direction. Not such a great effort.
I loved Chandler's books when I was younger. With movies it was mostly a miss. Maybe if David Lynch would have made one it could be something worth watching. Bogart stays my favorite but I would love to see a modern, truly noir take on the character which I think aged quite well. Much better than
Poirot, Sherlock and whomever. I guess with today's 40 some males pretending they are still 17 it would prove difficult

Does he have any really good movies? He's been in so many, yet I can't recall one I like with him in it.
although it was mostly Tim Roth.
Maybe I need to branch out.
When I think of him the Taken franchise comes to mind... which in my opinion, not well suited, not great movies. Don't personally feel he was a believable character.
Retirement fund for old geezers and their cousins, and less the moderately pretty daughters of Hollywood mamas.
They are all purposed for hard working all day meat packing Americans needing a brain reset after all day of intellect challenging work.
Amongst those let's add Reacher perhaps, but Taken would fall to the very bottom.
None great movies for sure, mindless movies after a week at the office. For my taste Reacher would come out of top, hmm... the other 2 pretty close. Both a bit more violent than I prefer.
I read a few of the Reacher books.....just can't watch the movies with Tom Cruise. Unlike many others, I don't hate Cruise, but...Reacher??...NFW!
these days. It's all coming to a really stoopid head of cookie cutter choreography
combined with myriad and "inventive" ways to kill people with some name (any
name) star leading the way amongst occasionally interesting or entertaining
cinematography. Moments of impressiveness and many minutes of something else.
Bob Odenkirk done drank from the the huge Hollywood Kool Aid Dispenser, which
seems like the deep, replenishing, trendy well there.
Good waste of his talents.
At least Jack Reacher is out of Tom Cruises' grip. The series is good.

Can't disagree with your 1st paragraph.
I don't think I've ever seen anything with Bob Odenkirk in it (had to look him up to see who he was), so can't comment on that.
