Follow Ups:
The novel movie based on is not a mile-long. It's written by brothers Strugatsky, and is outstanding read.
Movie has very little in common with the book, both in contents and spirit.
Movie basically borrows a very general outlines of the the "Zone " idea,
and some characters. Stalker, the main character in the movie, couldn't be more different from his literary protagonist "Red head".
I could never understand the movie, and I'm a big fan of Strugatsky's.
Tarkovsky himself is a different story, better saved for another occasion.
I watched "Mirror" again recently- it is not bad, but IMHO is pretty far from being a staple of the cinematograhy. Same statement, multiplied by 10, applies to "Stalker" as well.
I'll usually eat at a bad resturant two or three times just to make sure.
