Saw "Spider-Man" and thoroughly enjoyed it. I expected to like Tobey Maguire's performance based on the peculiar charm he brings to every role he plays. He's just so likeable. I'm less of a fan of Kirsten Dunst, but I thought she was a fine match with Maguire in the film. I thought the film could have spent a little more time on Peter Parker's adjustment to his new condition, but, hey, it's a comic book, so I don't really have a problem with them moving things right along. Didn't much care for the music--it was atmospheric and appropriate, but Danny Elfman is just so forgetable. I'm looking forward to the sequel(sequels?). No applause at the theater where I saw it, but it was a Sunday night showing, and the hardcore Spidey fans had probably already seen it. Everyone seemed to have enjoyed it though. I liked it a lot; my wife loved it.I agree with you that Lucas has a lot to atone for. He made some baaaadddd decisions in "The Phantom Menace". I loathed Jar-Jar and didn't like Jake Lloyd as Anakin either. I read somewhere that while Jar-Jar appears in "Attack of the Clones", his role is greatly reduced and that he announces he's learned "diplo-speak" and drops the grating way he talked in "Phantom Menace". Meesa sure hope dat twue. The DVD of "PM" includes a documentary that briefly shows the three final candidates for the Anakin role. The first kid was horrible. The second kid seemed natural and real to me and would have been my choice. Jake Lloyd was the third kid the documentary showed, and I guess he gave Lucas what Lucas was looking for because he overacted as badly in the audition as he did in the film. Glad he won't be in this one.
