I think the worst case that I have seen where the producers of a film changed everything from a great book is: "The Color of Money". I read the book by Walter Tevis and the only two things that the film has in common with the book are the TITLE and the name of the character Fast Eddie Felson, and that's it !!! The entire story line and other characters from the book were missing.
