and a fine human being. As a veteran I will always have a special gratitude for Mr. Hope and the entertainers who traveled with him on his numerous USO tours. I had the pleasure of seeing one of his later shows and thoroughly enjoyed it.
He entertained me in the Vietnam War era as he had entertained my father during World War II and my uncle Mac during the Korean War. We all loved the man. He cared. Thank God for entertainers like Bob Hope and Jerry Colona and Martha Raye and Phyliss Diller and Raquel Welch and the many others who risked their lives to entertain us.
I am not ashamed to admit that I shed a few tears when I heard the sad news early Monday morning. Mr. Hope had a good life and died surrounded by family and close friends. Can you think of a better way to go?
He left the world a little bit better than he found it.
