netflix sucks

63.26.11.169

was an "unlimited" renter for several months. here's the deal:

first, about 20% of the discs are so badly damaged, that they freeze or break-up, forcing you to skip over a chapter or two or three or 30. Cleaning with Auric Illuminator helps some, but apparently most renters haven't a clue about "reasonable care in handling". The stupider the movie, the more likely this is to occur (ie "Matrix" is unlikely to be undamaged, although "Life is Wonderful" wouldn't play either!).

too many of the foreign films are from outside of the region your DVD player is authorized to read: meaning it won't even register that a disc is in the machine (load it, and see the "no disc" error code). apparently alot of "swapping" takes place (people trading their cheap illegal "foreign" DVD's for netflix Region 1 copyrighted discs).

If you like "blockbuster" releases, get pay-per-view cable or dish, because you will wait months to get them from netflix--long after your grocery store has the VHS.

expect a 20% price increase every 4 months or so, without a corresponding increase in service, selection, or quality.

their website bites the big one: slow, hard to navigate, and listing titles they never had, or have no intention of getting.

anytime you drop a DVD in the mailbox, you are wide-open to being charged full list price for "not returned" rentals. just try and prove otherwise.

do you need another reason to get a decent VHS deck (recommend the JVC S-9000 series)... In all the years I've watched film on VHS, I've NEVER had an evening spoiled because a tape froze or broke up or just wouldn't play. You just don't realize how good VHS is until you get a DVD player, thinking you can rent "good" films.
