A million people killed at Stalingrad... a million in Leningrad... few hundred thousand in Dresden... Coventry... doesn't matter than none of these was able to end the war.
It is amazing what the sheer horror of the atomic bomb does to people's logic... it evaporates it.
And that in itself perhaps is not that bad. Because that argument "should we have done something differently?" will keep going forever. As the argument among the civilized people should.
But apparently there is not much of that "Should WE have behaved differently" argument in Japan.
BTW, those two bombs have saved far more that the lives of the American servicemen in Asian theater. They also stopped Uncle Joe dad in his rotten tracks, eliminating any chance of an immediate new war in Europe - the US vs. USSR war, that was NOT out of question at all.
