Is Canada French? Then here we have two French films

First one is "My Wife is an Actress"... a delightful comedy, the stuff the French do so well, featuring none other than Charlotte Gainsbourg - we talked about her just a couple of days ago.

More than worth the price of a rental... French fluff that will keep you smiling if not laughing long enough to loosen up your arteries and fill you with good mood. What more do you want for your $3.75?

The second one... be prepared - it is not for everyone.

"Maelstrom" is a Canadian movie by Denis Villeneuve (never heard that name before, but will be on a lookout from now on), and it is something that requires serious attention.

The movie produces strong emotions... VERY strong emotions. Your emotions might - and most likely WILL - change as the plot develops, but sit tight for a ride you will most likely not forget soon.

This is a masterful film that just doesn't let you relax and think about something outside the screen... it is intense in its deceptively relaxed representation. It deals with very serious subjects, but does that unobtrusively, almost matter-of-factly... until it smashes you with so much tension that you almost cry for mercy.

A must for every serious movie lover... easy to say that... so there.
