Yes, Sam is nice, as are couple of other guys, but as a whole the movie is simply atrocious. It's got all the prints of the ridiculous made-for-American-TV docu-drama. I am a sucker for the air/space stuff, and I enjoyed it for the bits of trivia and facts, but man, as a film it is so far below par it is ridiculous. You take a great true story and throw it in a barrel together with an incredibly weak script, add some good performances, some not so good ones, put there an awful directing, and soak everything in heavy maple syrup - and then you've got it.

You probably don't watch many of the made-for-tv drame thingies, but they have developed a particular style, all the same for every such "film", all based on true stories and all seem like they were made on the same conveyor belt.

But when you take The Right Stuff for what it truly is, it is enjoyable.
