Re: DVD Regions: Some Question

>>>In addition to the six basic regions, some DVDs from overseas are advertised as "region free." But what does that mean?<<<
That means instead of having a region coded into it, they are region"0". and should play on most DVD players.

>>> Does it mean that this DVD will play on any DVD player in the world, including U.S. region 1 DVD players?<<<
There may be a few exceptions, but yes, it should play on all players.

>>>Or does it mean that it will only play on a special "region free" DVD player, which will (probably) have to be purchased from one of these international movie resellers, etc.?<<<
No. While region free DVDs are getting more common, many or most of the imported DVDs are still region coded.
Also, it is VERY important to note if the DVD is PAL or NSTC coded.
If you wish to buy imported DVDs, I strongly recomend you get a player that will read all regions and convert PAL to NSTC
NOTE:some (old)region free players have the rigion reader disabled-they will not play region enhanced DVDs from the US(thank you hollywood). Thankfully now, most "region-free" players are actually "all-region" region players due to thew fact that you can change them to read whatever region you wish, at will. Region enhanced discs will play on them.

>>> I'm skeptical that Asian DVD movie sellers are completely clear on this matter. In researching various versions of the DVD "Musa the Warrior," I find a myriad of DVD covers and several (2-3 at least) version of the movie. <<<
yes, they are pretty clear. There may be 2,3,4 or whatever versions of various movies, depending on the ditributors and what country they will be sold to. Sometimes they have different subtitles, have slightly different editing, or different feature. Sometimes they just have different packaging.
Not to mention there are special editions, Limited editions director's cuts etc.

>>>Supposedly, only the Korean version is the full-length 155 minute uncut movie--it would seem this would be region 3, as some sites claim, but others say it is "region free." <<<
Once in a while, a disc will be labeled incorrectly for the region. I know HKflix is good at commenting on this if needed.

Hope this helps.
