The public's appetite for cheap entertainment and cheap food is insatiable, so Hollywood, that is the prime purveyor of that fare, is assured long life.Hollywood's existance is not tied to taking chances, breaking new grounds - it is all about safe way of making the public happy, and raking in tons of money.
Remakes are usually considered a safe way of making a successful movie. While this is generally speaking wrong, this notion still lives in LA. For a studio exec there is far less risk of being canned this way.
