Silkwood

"Silkwood" has more problems than just Steep's misconceived performance. Howard Kohn's articles in "Rolling Stone" did a pretty good job of capturing her...but Nichol's film thought she was a working class girl...which she wasn't!

I lived in Nederland in the late 60s/early 70s and went to school with Karen Silkwood's sister. Middle class kids, all of us, even if our dads worked in the refineries and on the railroad. Union wages!

One of Karen's traits was putting on the working class gal act when she was raised to be a middle class girl who was supposed to get her MRS. She loved getting the job at Kerr-McGee and working in the union and all of that stuff!

I know of another girl from nearby Port Arthur did something similar. Her name was Janis something.
