I think Ebert is dead on in his review of this movie. One of Zhang Yimou's best, I think. One of the most visually stunning movies I've seen in a long time. Every bit as good as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
In addition, if you like Rashamon, you will enjoy the parallels here as well.
Victor, since you like Ju Dou, I think you would like this one as well.
