DUI,I know it not popular to criticize dead celebrities, but I never enjoyed Dangerfield's agitated, lumpen style of comedy. I understand he was continuing the grand old Borcht-belt tradition, "Take my wife- please" and there is something for tradition, but a catch phrase and one liners in a string is not enough. For me, his pop-eyed restlessness becomes fatiguing really quickly.
And that goes double for you Benny Hill!
Aside: A woman friend, against her instincts, went on a "date" with Dangerfield perhaps 20 years ago and had a poor experience. Somehow in the first hour or two the term "golden showers" came up and this spoiled the dinner for some reason.
But, I'm sure Dangerfield will have his retrospective at the Whitney the way things are going in this country.
