>>Other studios, like Steven Speilberg's Dreamworks, do have the same concerns as Lucas, and are witholding their titles same as Lucas.<<

Uh....Saving Private Ryan, American Beauty (Oct. 1), Galaxy Quest (May 2), Small Soldiers, Antz, Prince of Egypt, Deep Impact, Amistad, and The Peacemaker. Gee Scott, that's almost their entire library of movies that are all released on DVD.

>>Either way, don't fool yourself - none of the studios ever has the fan's concerns in mind - all they care about is m-o-n-e-y.<<

If you reread my previous post, you will find that I am not fooling myself. I did say: "I call it greed clouding rational thought and lack of consideration for the fans." Thank you for agreeing with me on that point.

>>Duh - it doesn't stop them, but it does result in a severe loss of quality as you dupe down from disc to tape<<

The issue was copying from laserdisc to DVD. Not from disc to tape. The laserdisc has been released in Japan. People are, at considerable expense, importing the $70-$80 laserdisc set from Japan rather than buying the $20 vhs tape. Do you not think people would spend $35 for a DVD?

>>They can afford to take the long view and maintain their catalog the same way Disney does.<<

Ah yes, Di$ney and Luca$film. WTF is maintain the catalog? Let it sit on the shelf for years while the fans get frustrated?

>>How did you get from A to B on this one?<<

Numerous studios feel comfortable enough to release their titles on DVD and they are making money. Why doesn't lucasfilm? Because Lucas is rather high on himself and is abandoning the fans that made him what he is today. If he is waiting for a higher quality format then why is he releasing the movie on VHS and Laserdisc?
