This film version of a Stephen King prison story went nowhere when released theatrically in 1994 but over the years word of mouth has made it the most rented (and some say most broadcast) film in recent memory. The story is linear but episodic and rewards multiple viewings. The cast is expertly chosen and the acting and direction are first rate. James Whitmore's small role is particularly moving. Better, IMHO, than "The Green Mile" by far.

- Quite right IMO, and besides, King has written *killer* (as it were) short stories for the New Yorker. nt - clarkjohnsen 13:38:27 01/12/05 (0)
