(1) I agree. Scarlett is a very good actress, who, I believe, is yet to hit her stride. She has had a minor hiccup along the way (The Perfect Score), but she was pretty good.(2) Your comment about Charlize Theron merely putting on weight and makeup for "Monster" is totally wrong, and leads me to believe that you never saw the documentary "Aileen, Confessions of a Serial Killer." If you saw that film, you will see that in "Monster" Theron did more than simply add weight and loose the makeup. She became Aileen Wournos, and appeared to channel the serial killer. Before Theron did the role, you could never have convinced me that ANY actress could convincingly pull off that performance. Now that I have seen both films, which is a must if you want to appreciate Theron's performance, I must say that no actress other than Theron could have pulled that off.
It is one thing for an actor to "loose" themself in a fictional charachter, for which there is no reference. But to so convingly play a real person, for whom there are many references, and you either achieve the charachter or you do not, is impressive.
