In an Oscar nominateed role that must have kept many from a visit to the dentist for a while, Lawrence Olivier plays a sadistic Nazi searching for a bunch of diamonds in New York City. Dustin Hoffman co-stars as a graduate student. Roy Scheider is his brother who works for a super secret U.S. government spy agency. Hoffman gets involved in the plot because of the Nazi's belief that he knows the diamonds' whereabouts. William Devane also has a suppoerting role. Naturally there is a gorgeous female along the way.William Goldman wrotwe the screen play based on his novel. The plot takes a long while to settle in and for the first half of the film we are shown a bunch of characters with no seeming relation to each other. Not as thrilling the second or third time around except for the dental scenes, which are horrific.
