It is as good as these..........

"Paths of Glory" is a terrific film by any measure. I would certainly place it in my list of the all-time best war films along with the likes of Lewis Milestone's "All Quiet On the Western Front", Jean Renoir's "Grand Illusion", John Huston's "Red Badge of Courage", David Lean's "The Bridge on the River Kwai", Oliver Stone's "Platoon", Francis Ford Coppola's "Apocalypse Now", and a few others. I would also add some which are not war films but in which war is the center such as Kubrick's "Dr. Strangelove", Arthur Hiller's "The Americanization of Emily", Sidney Lumet's terse "Fail-Safe", Hal Ashby's very underrated "Coming Home", Alan J. Pakula's "Sophie's Choice", Fred Zinnemann's "The Men", Michael Curtiz's classic "Casablanca" John Cromwell's "Since You Went Away", Spielberg's "Schindler's List", William Wyler's magnificent duo "Mrs. Miniver" and "The Best Years of Our Lives", and Claude Lanzmann's eloquent and remarkable "Shoah."
