I was at my in-laws this weekend, and caught Part II while the others watched Ray. I should have done some work, but I also got absorbed in the film. There are those little moments that I must sit and see. Like the moment when Mike tells his hitman that nothing is to happen to Fredo until their mother dies. These films have become a part of our social fabric. I almost have to stop and remind myself that they are not real. In the scene towards the end when the brothers are sitting at the dinner table waiting for Vito, and Sonny is sitting at the end of the table when Mike announces that he has enlisted. I began to wonder how history would be different had Sonny not been killed. Would Mike have been a gangster? Would the family have been different? Would Mike's marriage have turned out better? Would Fredo have double crossed the family? But then, it is fiction. Not many films generate that type of curiosity.
