Short Cuts does string together some of Raymand Carver's best short stories, and IMO does it very, very well. It is not done in the style of the Player, i.e. as an homage to a filmmaker (Welles). By Altman's standards it is rather straightforward. I suspect he got more of a kick out of stringing these "unconnected" short stories together than he would've by jazzing it up pictorially.I believe it to be a labor of love for an author, and works as such. If you've seen Crash recently it ought to put you in mind of this. But this one's better, IMO. And well woth watching despite the carping on this forum.
