Anyone seen Business of Strangers?

I simply can't agree with all the praise that film has been getting. I had to keep myself there to finish watching it, looking for the promised wonderful performances in that... well... "character study".

And... is there a movie that is NOT a character study? Presumably one without a character would be such a movie, but any other film with people doing something in it would offer something in its characters to study... no? No, I am not too in love with that term.

I think the film is bizarre to the point of if not being idiotic, then at least coming close to it. Dangerously close. Pardon me, but in action of any character, the dumber one in Dumb and Dumber, there should be some reason and logic. But what on Earth would cause Julie (played by Stockard Channing, who has that "What the hell am I doing here?" expression on her face throughout the ordeal... sorry, movie..) join the vicious and not too bright Paula in doing those nasty things?

Perhaps the explanation lies in the fact that the two ladies finished ***at least*** two big bottles of whisky during the evening, and still retained the ability to act in their stupid fashion.

They drank like a cammel after a 1000 mile desert trip - with great pleasure and non-stop. They drank in the bar, in the room upstairs, then in the bar again, then in the room... Perhaps THAT was what attracted some viewers to it... another Thelma and Louise, the drunk and mean ones. Yep, that's got to be it, and therefore lies their attractiveness to the opposite sex - in being too drunk to even puke, but not too drunk to abuse the numb body of a "rapist". In fact, as it turns out, that "dumb and primitive" guy is the only person in the film with some human qualities.

No... that was not an evening well spent.
