The earthlink article/summary has some problems (it's spelled Adderall, not Aderol! for starters).On issue of overdiagnosis--A rigorous evaluation performed by the Council on Scientific Affairs of the AMA found little evidence of widespread overdiagnosis or misdiagnosis of ADHD, although some children are being diagnosed as having ADHD with insufficient evaluation (JAMA 279/14 [1998] 1100-1107).
On the conclusion that ADHD is not a valid clinic disorder, the 1998 NIH Consensus Conference unequivocally concluded that "...there is validity in the diagnosis of ADHD" (NIH Consensus Statement 16/2 [1998] 1-37).
