I was going to ask above weather you'd watched pt. 1, 2, or both.Pt. 2 is inferior. It has much more dialogue and is more "human," but it's not as well crafted or measured as pt. 1. I don't buy the claim that the two parts originally comprised a single film that was merely cut down the middle. Such a film would have come across as having two halves, each striking very different notes. Pt. 1 benefits from being de-coupled from pt. 2; though maybe pt. 2 would have benefited from remaining joined with pt. 1.
I'd be interested to hear what you think.
I think you're praise of pt. 1 is right on. Very well choreographed and edited (a kind of choreography here, really) visual feast. It's the only film of his I really like, and I went to the theater prepared not to, or to find it as uneven as Pulp Fiction. Intend to revisit Jackie Brown.
His next project is apparently some kind of WWII epic.
