TBS had pan-and-scan version on at 8EST, then a restored widescreen version at 10. I guess they're cycling through all the Bond films over a few weeks.Watching it again for the nteenth time, I noticed the difference between the old Bond films and the newer ones. It's the little touches that show what Bond is really a bad-ass. He beds a suspected mole, just to eat up some time, then sends her off to be arrested. He sets up her room to look like they are in bed, then plays cards while waiting for his assasin to show up, who he then executes in mostly cold blood. That's how Bond is supposed to operate, not blowing up people with rocket launcher equipped cars and laser watches.
It's a lot of other small touches as well. After running for cover on a beach, he kicks sand over his tracks so an approaching boat won't see them. Instead of a silly laser watch to get out of his prison, he palms a knife while having dinner with the villan, and fails.
The old Bond relied on instincts and cleverness. The new one relies on gadgets and firepower. While the new one can be pretty exciting to watch, the old one was infinitaly more interesting. It would be cool if the studio grew a pair and made an honest translation of the old school, chauvenistic, badass Bond just once.
