"The Panic in Needle Park"

This morning, I caught part of this early Al pacino flick on cable while I was preparing for work. It seemed pretty interesting, as it focused on heroin addiction in early '70s New York--a subject I unfortunately know too well due to the OD deaths of my older cousin and several of his shooting buddies in that time period. I only saw a few minutes of it, so I couldn't really form any kind of opinion, but I love Pacino in almost any role. Is it worth picking up as a rental? TIA.
