Pinging Victor----Zvezda?

I just finished reading Kazakevich's book "Star"---and did a search to see if it was ever made into a movie. Apparently there are two versions of "Zvezda"----one made in 1949 by A. Ivanov and a more recent one in 2002 directed by Nikolai Lebedev.
Apparently the 2002 version is the only one available outside of Russia.
Have you seen either? Any opinions? I was very impressed by the book---even though the English translation was somewhat lacking...
