Very revealing of Hitchcock's "blonde misogyny". Great movie, but I saw it as a child when it first came out and didn't understand it. It wasn't until I was adult that I caught on to the themes of obsession and yearning.
Hitchcock was a Brit, and probably put Scotty on the "correct" side of the road as an item of humor.
