2010, The Sting II, Matrices, Jaws II, Temple of Doom/Last Crusade Terminator III

It's difficult to say which is absolutely the MOST disappointing sequel, but: "The Sting II", "Matrix" after the first one, "Temple of Doom"/"Last Crusade" Terminator III" are some clear winners. For me, disspointing sequels happen more often with blockbusters in which producers try to cash in on some quirky relationship of characters or gimmicks. The worst offender I think is the "Raiders of the Lost Ark" series that started with so much promise for it's genre. "2010" was disppointing as it changed from the brilliant, laconic look at man's relationship to technology of "2001" and made it a silly political/quasi-religious mess. It doesn't work very well either to predict that in 2010, the US and the Soviet Union are nearly at war- a bit ridiculous all round really.

Of course, the public also doesn't deserve the last three "Star Wars" episodes either.
