Movies from comedy to drama to your favorite Hollyweird Star.

To each his own I guess, but I don't consider Brando the finest just because he played so many different roles.

Errol Flynn was better as a cowboy even though that was not considered his forte. Dennis Hopper was better as a biker and he's played everything from a cop to psychopathic killer. As far as varied roles with depth and range of acting I'd say Rod Steiger was vastly superior! Could you imagine Brando playing a jewish Pawnbroker, a sadistic cowboy, and Illustrated Man and even W. C. Fields convincingly??? No way, Jose!

If I had to give credit to one person as being "the finest film actor, period" (since the word *actor* is now, quite appropriately, a genderless term) it would be for one role with such range of emotion that the fact that it was the only film she ever starred in doesn't negate the impact of her accomplishment: the film Carl Theodore Dreyer's The Passion of Joan of Arc and the actor Renee Falconetti. Not being a religious person, this choice might appear odd, but one should value the work, whenever possible, rather than any agenda or unsubstantiated beliefs within the subject matter.

I'm not saying that Brando wasn't a gifted actor capable of great depth and diversity, but there are so many more outstanding male actors, living and deceased, who in addition to those already mentioned, have produced a wide ranging body of work that I find just as compelling. Examples:

George C. Scott
Jack Nicholson
Kevin Spacey
Russell Crowe
Clark Gable
Steve McQueen
Humphrey Bogart
Tyrone Power
Jose Ferrer
Robert Duvall
Yul Brenner
John Barrymore

...and I apologize in advance for leaving out so many other great actors who've escaped my recollections at the moment.
