I don't think he is actually the rangiest actor of all time but he certainly was one of the most influencial. He more than any other actor helped usher in a new era of realism in acting. I think one need only watch a Streetcar named desire to see that transition incarnate. the old school stylized school of acting from Vivian Lee stands in stark contrast to the realism and rawness of Brando.
