Re: Cell phone etiquette . . . what an oxymoron . . .

Like many in this thread, I'm old school (born in '53). I still don't own a cell phone, but I do use the one work provides (to stay in touch with doctor, when rounding in various hospitals, etc.).

I agree that it is distracting to have people "lighting up" their cell phones in a darkened movie theater. I actually sat once by a Oriental chick who put her sweater over her head and talked on her cell phone during the movie! By the way, sweaters aren't sound proof.

Let's go one step further. I've been in Borders or B&N, and someone takes a cell phone call and walks around yakking on their phone in a loud voice. No, this isn't a library, but many customers are there to read magazines, check out books, etc. Please, take your cell phone outside!

Drivers talking on any type of phone (even speaker phones) are four times more likely to have an auto accident than "phone less" drivers.

Many countries have banned cell phone use in cars, except in emergencies. Why can't we do that in U.S.? Cell phone lobbyists, I suppose.
