This Spike Lee joint is almost (almost) free of the
"OK Spike, we get it, we get it!" moments and is a fairly interesting look at inner city interracial romance. Wesley Snipes is a an up and coming architect, married happily, who at first resents the new Italian woman hired his firm's partners to replace his assistant (he had asked for an African-American). Over time ,however, and this is portrayed very skillfully, they start a friendship which develops into a full fledged romance. Sub plots involve a similar attraction involving one of her brothers, Snipes'crack addict brother Samuel L.Jackson and their relationship with their minister father and their mother, and other more minor stories. Well acted and includes a truly frightening scene in a massive crack house. The first musical score of many for lee by Terence Blanchard.
