What I'm really asking is which portrayl does the viewer feel more comfortable with....

Not based on acting merit but on the way the character was interpreted. I like the more stolid, dramatic portrayal of Elizabeth by Blanchett yet Mirren may have actually captured Liz as more of a woman than a Queen.
