...it was directed by an American, Martin Ritt, not a British/irish director.
There is a certain school of thought that Life Of Brian is a more cohesive script and film than Holy Grail, which according to this wisdom is still abit too sketch-like...but I agree the Pythons were never funnier than in HG.
