Although not exclusively British, many of my faves have been international efforts such as "The Great Escape" (John Sturgis), and "Barry Lyndon" (Stanley Kubrick) -- films sadly missing from the list, albeit by American (global citizen) directors.
These and films like British director David Lean's "Doctor Zivago", and "Lawrence of Arabia" have helped me form an appreciation of Britain and the human condition.
The error is mine alone if I thought these quality films British, as art rarely thrives in a vacuum -- except valve art of course.
