The blood is fake.What looks like dogs fighting, is dogs playing, cleverly edited.
Their mouths are strapped shut! You'll be able to see this on the DVD.

The director, in an interview, said he was amazed that in "first-world countries" people are getting a lot more upset over what happens to the dogs (whatever that was) than what happens to the humans (which is some bad stuff). He added that he considers this "a form of racism". As in, anti-human-race.
A mousy woman of perhaps 24 was sitting next to me whimpering loudly whenever she saw a bloody dog, but maintaining stoic silence at the sight of bloody humans. I was about to ask her to cool it when she turned to her pliant boyfriend, confronted him with her "feelings", and they both got up and left.
The movie is great! I doubt whether anyone could predict anything that happens, and its length passes quickly. In format it reminds me more of Run Lola Run than anything, or Updike's shortie "Four Sides of the Same Story." My only objection is to the "center" story, where any sane people (i.e. not plot-driven movie characters) would have hired a professional to extract the trapped dog. But there are a couple situations where the director leaves the characters maddeningly to themselves to finish the action offstage; I loved that!
Lest you think the film is anti-dog, it fades out on the classic scene of a man and his dog walking into the sunset.
