it can do strange things to you....a character steeped in evil would be especially difficult when you live it 24/7.....Nicholson was very effective in the role previously and I have always suspected that it is because there is some evil subtext in his personality...we've seen it before..."here's Johnny"....as just one example....he was able to step away from it....Heath it would seem was possibly not able to distance himself from it.....it's a shame really...I had been watching Ledger's career and I've really admired his work....he took risks as an actor....it would have been easy to have made a career of playing the "pretty boy" but he took HUGE out-of-the-box risks with Brokeback Mountain and The Dark Knight and played against type and was effective....
